NATURE IS JUST A BREATH AWAY

ABOUT

Hey fellow sea soul!

Have you ever felt like you're stuck in the hamster wheel—wanting to change something because deep down, you know you need more? You are more.

As a kid, you had dreams of exploring, but maybe your family didn’t have the time or money for adventurous holidays. Then adulthood came, and you were too busy building your life. Now you have a family—so what can you do? Trust me, I know how you feel.

That was my story too.

The moment that changed everything

In 2006, I had a serious motorcycle crash that turned my life upside down. During the long months of recovery, when I was struggling just to get through each day, my mum used to say:

“Son, you didn’t die that day because our creator must have plans for you.

But you need to fight right now.”

Eventually, I started socializing again, and some friends from the hospital took me to the nearby quarry lakes for a splash. I resisted at first—thinking, “What will I do in there with a paralyzed arm?” But the hot summer day didn’t leave me much choice. I went in. Standing in the water up to my chin, I felt I could lift my hand. Something switched in my head. I started training hard and believed I’d get my arm back.

It worked!

Fast forward—I met my future wife, who had also survived a rough accident and had to transform her life. She understood me instantly. We supported each other from the beginning. We moved to Shetland for a couple of years, planning to return to Hungary with some savings. But time passed, we had two beautiful daughters, and we grew deep roots here in the islands.

I became a builder and met a local diver, Billy, who encouraged me to try his gear and go for a splash. I was hooked straight away.

Freediving helped me heal—from anger, depression, or simply the need to relax. Those quick afternoon dives felt like mini backyard adventures in a magical alien forest. I realized I didn’t need expensive holidays to feel the thrill of discovery. Since then, I’ve freedived in rivers, lakes, lochs, and all around Europe. Every time I snorkel with my daughters, I feel more connected to them. It’s easy to bond with your little descendants in this magical substance called water. I always say:

Water is 800 times denser than air—and the experience is 800 times more intense when you’re diving.

Finding my calling

Another eye-opening moment came when I took my colleague Peter (from the local high school, where we taught woodwork) for a swim. He asked, “How is it possible to dive down in such a buoyant suit?” I showed him the proper technique, and he managed to go down. He was thrilled—and that day, a seed was planted in my mind.

I signed up for freediving instructor courses. Steve Millard helped me through my qualifications, and that’s how it all started. After 10 years of freediving, I thought I wouldn’t learn much new—but I was wrong. Even on the first course, I learned so much I wished I’d done it earlier. Later I realized all my qualifications were connected to the sea: scuba diving, sea survival, and I’m also an Emergency First Responder (EFR).

What you’ll experience

On my courses, you’ll learn how to hold your breath, proper finning technique, how to be a good buddy, and how to help fellow divers in trouble.

So let me show you—going on a marine adventure isn’t hard. Whether you want to become a certified freediver or just try it out, join me for a snorkel tour around Shetland’s spectacular underwater landscape.

Bring your kids too! They won’t be able to scroll on their phones underwater, so they’ll connect with you—and with nature. That’s more important than ever.

If you’re a seasoned pro visiting Shetland, let me be your host and take you to the best spots.

If you’re a seafood lover, I can teach you how to source your own fresh fish, lobsters, crabs, urchins, clams, scallops—or even seaweed—for your family and friends. You’ll be the most interesting person at any party when you show up with hand-picked seafood. Everyone will ask about your latest adventure.

You’ll find like-minded people everywhere—on the bus to work, in a pub, at a campsite, or a hotel.

You’ll get far more out of your seaside holiday when you’re not limited to sightseeing or lounging poolside. I’m not saying those aren’t great—but if you pack a mask and snorkel, you’ll enjoy your hard-earned holiday 100% more. There are freedive groups all over the world—let them show you, their backyard.

Then come home and tell us what you saw and experienced.
